**Survey deadline has been extended to September 2010.**
You have expressed an interest in participating in an internet survey that is investigating pregnancy outcomes within the air medical transport industry. The title of the research study is Pregnancy Outcomes Among Air Medical Transport Crew.
Study participants must be:
1. Women
2. Air medical transport workers (past or present).
3. Pregnant or trying to become pregnant while working on the flight line.
Participants can represent any part of the air medical transport team:
• Registered Nurses
• Paramedics
• EMT’s
• Respiratory Therapists
• Physicians
• Pilots
Research Purpose:
The purpose of this study is to determine whether or not higher rates of poor pregnancy outcomes exist in the air medical transport industry as compared to national averages. Findings of the study can be used to guide future research into specific occupational hazards with the goal of promoting the safety of air medical crew and their families.
About the Online Survey and Research Process:
The brief 10 question online survey was developed to establish primarily whether or not higher rates of various poor pregnancy outcomes exist in the air medical transport industry. Secondarily, data will be collected on other variables such as flight volume, airframe, etc. to see if any immediate correlations can be made.
It is anticipated that the survey will take no more than 15 minutes to complete. For accuracy, it is preferable to use records when answering questions, rather than estimating or guessing. If you have access to your flight records, please have them available to you during the survey.
Confidentiality:
Anonymity is preserved between participants, as participants do not have interaction with anyone except the researcher. Interaction with the researcher is primarily through email or phone, and only if the participant contacts the researcher with questions. Participant responses are completely anonymous. All participant phone conversations and emails will be held in strict confidence. No one except the researcher will have access to them.
Risks and Benefits to the Participant:
There are no foreseeable psychological or physical risks to individuals who participate in this study. This research may be beneficial to the air medical transport industry by identifying whether or not certain health risks exist, so these risks can be avoided or mitigated.
Voluntary Participation: Participation is voluntary and you are able to stop participation at any time, without penalty. There are no associated risks or consequences in withdrawing from the study at any point in the process.
Compensation: There is no compensation provided for individuals participating in this study.
Contact Information: The researcher conducting this study is Patricia Van Dyke, RN a Flight Nurse and Clinical Educator in the air medical industry. At any point in this process, you may contact the researcher if you have questions or concerns about any aspect of this study.
