Priority-Setting Among Oncology Topics

Thank you all so much for agreeing to participate in CMTP’s priority setting process to select important emerging oncology technologies for our future work. We have a couple of goals for our in-person July 12th meeting:

1. Select 2 or 3 topics that seem particularly compelling and well-suited for an Effectiveness Guidance Document (EGD) (explained below)

2. Better flesh out the specific research question(s) and issues pertaining to the technology topics selected;

3. Help us identify any topics or technologies that might be compelling for other types of CMTP projects.


Effectiveness Guidance Documents : EGDs present a set of recommendations to help researchers and product developers design new CER trials that will generate useful evidence for patients, providers, and payers. Typical recommendations include how to select comparison arms, how to choose patient inclusion/exclusion criteria, and how to choose a study design (RCT vs. registry, etc). CMTP produces EGDs for diagnostic, imaging, and treatment technologies, so we have some of each of these in our top 10 list. Essentially, we are trying to identify topics that have potential for large clinical and costs impact, a lot of evidence gaps in the literature, and little consensus about how to design new research.

Instructions:We ask that you review the priority-setting criteria listed on the following page, and provide an single score for each oncology technology topic taking the criteria into consideration. Depending on the topic, not all of the criteria may be directly applicable.

The scoring is from 0-10, with "0" indicating that the topic is not suitable for further consideration, and "10" indicating that the topic strongly reflects the criteria and would be a major priority for CMTP.

In addition, we have included an optional comment box for each topic where we ask that you provide a small amount of reasoning for your rating that may be helpful for discussion, or any comments you have on any of the criteria that may be particularly applicable to this topic.
