1. Order of Nine Angles
Dear ONA Member
I am conducting questionnaire research on contemporary Satanism. The current phase of my research builds on prior work that was published ten years ago as “Who Serves Satan? A Demographic and Ideological Profile.” This earlier article can be found online at the Marburg Journal of Religion website: (http://www.uni-marburg.de/fb03/ivk/mjr/pdfs/2001/articles/lewis2001.pdf).
I also conducted a second survey ('Satan Survey Two,' or SS-II) two years ago and am currently conducting a third ('Satan Survey Three,' or SS-III). You may already have taken one or both of these.
As part of my SS-III research, I found that the Order of Nine Angles was different enough from other forms of Satanism that it was decided that a separate questionnaire for ONA should be constructed as a supplement to SS-III.
If you would like to participate in this research, please complete the following questionnaire. Unless you otherwise identify yourself, your answers will be completely anonymous. I have set this survey program not to collect IP addresses.
This questionnaire is disconnected from SS-III. In order to be able to make comparisons between ONA and other forms of Satanism, it would be immeasurably helpful if you would also respond to that questionnaire. The link is - http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/GC2RHKF (You cannot click on the link directly from this questionnaire; you will need to cut and past it into your browser window.) I know you will think that parts of it are useless, but I will be unable to make meaningful comparisons unless I have data from ONA respondents.
NOTE: Some ONA members who filled out SS-III had problems -- or seemed to have problems -- saving their finished questionnaires. Please, therefore, save a backup of your surveys -- both SS-III and this one -- just in case.
Initial findings from this questionnaire will be reported at the "Satanism in Western Culture" conference, to be held in Stockholm, 25-27 September 2011. (http://www.erg.su.se/pub/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=16068) I will also be including data from this survey in future publications.
Let me be up front and say that I do not claim to have an intimate or a thorough knowledge of the Order of Nine Angles system. If some of the questionnaire items miss the mark, please do not hesitate to answer in ways that do not respond directly to the question. I have also left the last item completely open so that you can add information or address matters that I have not included.
I do not know what the size limits are to the text/essay boxes underneath the open-ended questions, but they will hold at least three or four pages. If you plan to insert a large amount of text, I would advise that you compose it outside of the survey, and then cut-and-paste it into the questionnaire.
If you have written something even more lengthy (more than three or four pages) that you would like to share, you are also welcome to send it as an email attachment to james.lewis@uit.no or to snail mail it to me at the below office address.
Please inform other Order of Nine Angles members about this research project and feel free to pass this link along via e-mail or to post a link on appropriate blogs and websites.
Thanks for your help.
