The OCLC is currently recruiting volunteers interested in tutoring adult learners. No prior teaching experience is required; however, volunteers need to have good reading skills and enjoy working with people.
Volunteer tutors typically commit 4-6 hours per week for preparation, travel, and instruction time with their student(s).
In order to provide some consistency for our students, we ask volunteers to sign up for 6 month intervals (not including holidays, vacation, or illness). After that time, you can redefine the level of involvement you have with our program. You can choose to take on more students or adjust your tutoring commitment to accommodate changes in your schedule.
Our Tutor Training Workshops will prepare you for becoming an individual or small group tutor. After your initial training, our staff will continue to provide support to students and tutors throughout the instructional process.
