Peanuts Gang
Artist: Derek Barbin

drkbarbin@hotmail.com

Derek Barbin grew up in Exeter, NH where his imagination was cultivated and encouraged by his family, friends and art teachers. During his formative years, drawing caricatures of family members and friends was a catalyst for bringing people together to laugh and share stories. These early experiences fueled his artistic pursuit. Derek attended the University of New Hampshire and majored in studio art. Disciplines studied included drawing, painting, sculpture, pottery and printmaking. Upon graduating, Derek spent a subsequent year at The Hartford Art School where he honed his skills with ceramics. Seeking adventure, Derek moved to New York City where he absorbed the vibrant culture and viewed a variety of art offered
by the dynamic city. Upon leaving the City, Derek moved to Northern New England and collaborated with the Center Lovell Art Gallery. Throughout his relationship with the Gallery, he taught students and displayed his work. Derek currently resides in Southern New Hampshire and is employed with the Town of Kittery as the Parks Chief. He continues to create new artistic works. Derek’s work includes: large scale murals developed for companies and schools throughout New England, signage, caricatures, illustrations for children's books, paintings, pottery and freelance art.

I live in South Berwick in a pink house with my wife, daughter and cat and a dog. Between filling the needs of these four and trying to keep up on the housework I try to make as much art as I can. I am a graduate of UNH with a degree in Studio Art with a concentration in Furniture making and printmaking. My favorite medium is wood and I make reduction woodcut prints but I also make all sorts of things out of about anything I can find. My family and my surroundings are an endless well of inspiration for me and I drew on the tattooed youth of the seacoast as well as the proud maritime tradition to make with the traditional flash design of Homeward. If you are interested in my work please visit my websites or give me a shout, I am always teaching classes in the area and I am always game for a studio visit.
Cheers folks!
