1. Survey Background

 1 / 4
Thank you for your interest in serving as a reviewer for the Journal of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Community Development. We welcome and greatly appreciate your contribution to JAFSCD and hope that you benefit from the experience as well.

CRITERIA FOR SERVING AS A JAFSCD REVIEWER
1. Do you have a flair for critical insight?
2. Are you familiar with the design and implementation of qualitative and/or quantitative research, especially surveys?
3. Do you have expertise in a wide range of food system and agriculture development topics?
4. Can you commit to conducting 4 to 8 reviews per year?

SERVING AS A REVIEWER OR COLUMNIST
Reviewing consists of carefully reading a paper and responding to questions pertaining to its contribution to the practice of agriculture and food systems development, the validity of any research results, the quality of writing, and its readiness for publication. We use the Manuscript FastTrack online reviewing system to streamline the review process and eliminate the need for paper and snail mail. Please note that members of the Editorial Committee are welcome to submit manuscripts to the Journal.

Along with reviewers, experienced columnists and book reviewers may also serve on the Editorial Committee. Indicate your interest in these volunteer writing opportunities in this survey.

Because this is an applied journal, farmers, advocates, and other food system stakeholders with interest and expertise are encouraged to become involved as reviewers or columnists.

BRIEF BACKGROUND
JAFSCD is not like many other journals. We are not an academic journal nor a popular trade journal. JAFSCD is positioning itself somewhere in between these two in order to promote the common interests of scholars as well as professionals who work on food and agriculture issues.

To complete your duties as a reviewer effectively, we ask that you familiarize yourself with the following:

* Background on JAFSCD: See www.agdevjournal.com/jafscd-background.html.

* Criteria for articles: See www.agdevjournal.com/types-of-submissions.html.

* Our "accessible scholarship" concept: See www.agdevjournal.com/jafscd-terminology.html. Accessible scholarship basically means keeping the content free of technical jargon, using the active voice, and appealing to both researchers and practitioners/professionals. Also read through some recently published papers to see accessible scholarship in action.

COMPLETING THE PROCESS
After reviewing the information above, please complete this brief questionnaire in SurveyMonkey. The last page of the questionnaire asks that you commit to the guidelines for JAFSCD Editorial Committee; be sure to check all the boxes to indicate your acceptance of the guidelines.

Then the final step is to log into our manuscript review system, Manuscript FastTrack, to set up your profile so we have the needed information to start assigning you papers to review. (When you finish this questionnaire, you will be directed to Manuscript FastTrack.)

This questionnaire should just take 10-15 minutes. We ask for a brief (one paragraph) bio on the next page, so you may wish to prepare that in advance and paste it into the questionnaire. If you have any questions, please contact Duncan Hilchey at duncan@newleafnet.com.
