Welcome to GMB's Survey of LGPS members' views on the Government's proposed methods of reforming your pension scheme.
Two alternatives for reform have been outlined by the Department for Communities and Local Government in its consultation. Both alternatives involve increasing contribution rates and reducing the pension that is being built up. These changes are expected to pave the way for the wholescale reform that Government hopes to implement in 2015.
The Options are:
OPTION 1
a. Increase employees’ contributions from April 2012 from average 6.5% to 8%; and
b. Cut the scheme accrual rate from 1/60th per year of service to 1/64th in April 2013 and cut it again to 1/65th in April 2014
OPTION 2
a. Increase employees’ contributions from April 2012 from average 6.5% to 7.5%; and
b. Cut the scheme accrual rate from 1/60th per year of service to 1/67th in April 2014
More information on this consultation and these alternatives can be seen in GMB's Bulletin available at www.gmb.org.uk/pspc . In addition you can model the impact of these Options at www.gmb.org.uk/docs/11188%20LGPS%20Consultation.xls .
Government does not intention to consult LGPS members over the proposed changes to pensions. GMB believes this is wrong. GMB Members are asked to feedback their likely course of action if presented with these two alternatives for reform. You can do this by simply clicking one of the buttons below.
