DESCRIPTION:

Facial features have a large impact on evaluations of many different personality characteristics. The purpose of this study is to collect information on what facial features we believe indicate leadership ability. If you decide to participate, you will be asked to view the faces of several individuals and decide how likely each person is to be a good leader. This research project is being conducted by members of the Department of Psychology at New Mexico State University, and has been approved by the New Mexico State University Institutional Review Board.

EXCLUSION CRITERIA:

Participation in the study is restricted to those individuals who are over 18 years of age.

RISKS AND BENEFITS:

There are no perceived risks to participating in this study, outside of those that may be encountered in everyday life. Benefits of participation include gaining experience with psychological research. Additionally, you may earn up to 1 credit of experimental participation points for your general psychology class, if your university has chosen to participate.

VOLUNTARY NATURE OF PARTICIPATION:

Your participation in this study is completely voluntary and you may withdraw from the research study at any time. If you decide not to participate or choose to discontinue at a later date, you may do so without penalty or loss of benefits to which you are otherwise entitled. Any new information obtained during the course of the research that my affect your willingness to continue participation in the study will be provided to you.

CONFIDENTIALITY:

All information obtained from this research will be kept strictly confidential. Answers you provide will not be shared with anyone with your name attached. The data derived from this study could be used in reports, presentations, and publications but you will never be individually identified.
