SURVEY REOPENED JANUARY 21, 2013

PURPOSE
The purpose of this brief, ten-question survey is to assess interest in organizing group purchasing and licensing of electronic resources between Catholic hospital libraries, and possibly Other-than-Catholic hospital libraries. The responses will be used to gain greater understanding of current practices for purchasing and licensing electronic resources, and plan positive change to improve access to information resources. The survey is part of the outreach project, “Catholic Hospital Librarian Summit to Assess the Feasibility of Consortium Group Purchasing and Licensing,” supported by an NN/LM SE/A Region Express Planning and Assessment Award. The survey is being conducted by Merle Colglazier, MSLS, MDiv (principal investigator) and Joan Taylor, BSN, MSLS, hospital librarians for Bon Secours Virginia Health System. The target population includes 1) all Catholic hospital libraries in the United States, and 2) all Other-than-Catholic hospital libraries in the four Medical Library Association Chapters - Mid-Atlantic, Southern, New York/New Jersey, and Philadelphia Regional. The survey results will be reported as soon as they are available to all respondents who provide complete contact information. Survey feedback will be evaluated at a Catholic Hospital Librarian Summit, March 18-20, 2013 at the Retreat and Conference Center at Bon Secours. The survey is open for responses from January 21 to March 29, 2013.

OPEN PARTICIPATION
We welcome and encourage survey participation from all Catholic hospital libraries in the U.S. and all Other-than-Catholic hospital libraries in the four MLA Chapters that wish to assess the feasibility of e-resources group purchasing and licensing with Catholic hospitals. The study/project team believes that open participation for the survey is the best method to organize an effective special interest library consortium, and that collaborative principles of Catholic health ministry uphold open participation.

VOLUNTARY PARTICIPATION
Participation in the survey is voluntary. Refusal to participate will involve no penalty or loss of benefits to which the subject is otherwise entitled. Survey respondents have the right to discontinue participation at any time without penalty or loss of benefits to which the subject is otherwise entitled.

CONFIDENTIALITY
This survey is for research purposes only and results will be reported in summary and aggregate form in such a way that no one can be identified. The identity of survey participants for specific responses will only be shared with the evaluation team with two exceptions: 1) identify and current subscription data may be released to selective information providers to obtain price quotations for group purchasing, and 2) the Food and Drug Administration or other human research regulatory agencies may inspect the records.
