1. Introduction

Advances in brain imaging have enabled scientists to observe how the brain contributes to thought and behavior. Recently the use of brain imaging has grown beyond traditional research and is being applied in lie detection, mind reading, marketing and public security. Coverage of brain imaging in the media has grown rapidly and have led to some exaggerated research claims. For example:
Neurolaw - Brain scans are being used as evidence in court to determine if defendants are less responsible for criminal behavior due to brain abnormalities.
Neuromarketing - Advertising agencies are using brain imaging to examine why people prefer certain products.
Lie detection - fMRI methods are being offered commercially to determine the truthfulness of a person's testimony.
This survey seeks to gather information about opinions from people involved in neuroimaging on its widespread use outside traditional medical and neuroscience domains. All answers will be anonymous and respondents impossible to identify. The survey takes about 5 mins to complete.
