Education Maintenance Allowance Survey 2010 - Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland

1. Introduction

Education Maintenance Allowances (EMAs) are payments to young people in further education, to help them pay for costs such as travel, food and books.

NUS wants to find out how they are working for students and any of the problems you are facing. This short survey aims to get some of that information, and you can help to improve things for all students if you can answer our questions. It shouldn't take more than 10 minutes.

If you are a young person who doesn't receive EMA but still wish to make a comment about it, you will have the chance to do so in this survey.

You can also leave your email address with us at the end of this survey for your chance to win £50 of Amazon vouchers!

Note that in the survey we use the term "learning provider" – this could be your college, school, sixth-form college, employer/apprenticeship provider etc - whoever is responsible for giving you your training or education.

Note also that this survey is for learners in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Due to the differences in how the system works in England, we have conducted a separate survey for learners there but this has now closed.

You can also complete this survey in Welsh if you wish. You can find the Welsh-language survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ema2010cymru
