Climate Adaptation Monitoring |
1. Introduction
Climate change monitoring programs may be categorized as those that (1) assess climatic and environmental changes, (2) evaluate how climate change affects management or planning goals, and (3) determine the effectiveness of management and policy actions so that they may be redesigned, if necessary. This last category is especially important in order to improve the success of climate adaptation strategies. Metrics for evaluating the success of efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions are fairly standardized and applied, while metrics to monitor the effectiveness of adaptation are few and far between. EcoAdapt is working to develop guidance to support the monitoring and evaluation of climate-smart strategies.
