Which Budget Cuts Would You Support? Survey

As you know, Durango School District 9-R is facing serious budget challenges for the 2010-11 school year. The results of this survey will provide invaluable information and assist the Board of Education and 9-R Administrators in determining how best to cut $2.9 million dollars from next year’s budget. Please keep this figure in mind as you answer the questions.

7% cut to Administrative and Central Office, including Facilities and Transportation, personnel (approx 6-8 positions) and budgets ($655,000)

10% cut to school (non-personnel) budgets ($94,000)

10% cut to interscholastic activities provided by the district ($74,000)

Increase lunch prices $.25 per meal ($87,000)

Reductions in support/adjunct staff at schools (media/technology aides, PIE coordinators, health aides, instructional aides, secretarial support and/or others) approximately 8-10 positions ($150,000)

Negotiate with employee groups to pick up portion of health insurance. $25 per month. ($120,000)

Decrease the number of special teaching staff in the following areas: Gifted and talented, counselors, ELL, PE, art, music, literacy coaches (partial federal funded), etc. ($100,000)
