Bell High School has a code of conduct for student-athletes that has been in place for some time (see Student Planner). We find ourselves at the point where a revised policy is in order and your feedback is very much appreciated and valued.

2. Student athletes must maintain a passing grade in all courses for the duration of the season, including playoffs and OFSSA.

3. On the day of a game, a student athlete should be responsible for having his or her teachers sign a “ticket to play” sheet representing the student’s good standing in the class. Without the signed ticket the player will not be permitted to play or attend the game.

4. Student athletes habitually missing classes or arriving late should be ineligible for participation on sports teams including games and practices.

5. Student athletes missing practices or games without a coach’s prior knowledge and approval should expect disciplinary action that may include loss of playing time or even missing the next game.

6. Each athlete and their guardian or parent should be required to complete a Student-Athlete Code of Behaviour Contract for each of the teams they participate on.

7. A student athlete who quits a team without just cause should be ineligible to play interscholastic sports for 12 months.

8. A student athlete who quits a team without just cause should be ineligible to play interscholastic sports for the remainder of the school year.

9. Where an athlete is not meeting the school’s code of behaviour the coach, the teacher supervisor, and/or the Athletic Director should have the right to remove that player at their discretion.

10. In times when the NCSSAA imposes a sanction on a player, such as a game or multiple game suspensions, the school should double the intensity of the sanction. For example, a one game suspension will be increased to two games.

11. No student should be permitted to participate on two or more school teams that have overlapping seasons.

12. A student should be permitted to participate on multiple school teams that run concurrently if agreed to by the coaches of the respective teams, the Athletic Director, and the parent/guardian.

13. In the case of the player participating on multiple school teams running concurrently, the student should be required to choose a primary and secondary sport.
