PA Transportation Construction Market Survey

Despite assurances to the contrary, Governor Corbett and the General Assembly did not address the transportation funding issue in 2011. Consequently, PennDOT projections for the 2012 construction season, without a new funding plan, are for a reduction in lettings of about $500 million, or 25 percent. As part of our efforts to demonstrate the economic consequences of the state’s inaction, we’re asking all APC members to respond to a brief survey.

1. How many total employees did you have during the 2011 construction season?

2. How many total employees do you think you’ll have by the 2013 construction season if PennDOT reduces lettings by 25 percent per year?

3. How much did you spend on new equipment in 2007 (the last full year before the recession began and the federal transportation funding bill expired)?

4. How much do you expect to spend on new equipment by 2013?

5. Do you expect the road and bridge construction market for LOCAL GOVERNMENTS (i.e., non-PennDOT) to be better, worse or about the same by 2013 compared with 2011?

6. Highway construction aside, do you expect other OTHER CONSTRUCTION MARKETS in Pennsylvania to be better, worse or about the same in 2013 compared with 2011?
