The Local Economy Working Group (LEWG) of Transition Town Powell River (TTPR) is in the planning stages of a local currency project for Powell River, based on the Community Way $ model being used in the Comox Valley, the Kootenays, and soon in several Vancouver neighbourhoods. We're hoping this survey will help us find out how much Powell Riverites know about local currency, and who is likely to use it.
A local currency is used alongside the national currency, not usually instead of it, and has a number of benefits including:
Supporting local businesses and non-profits
Keeping money circulating within the community for longer
Allowing local people to earn local $ even when national $ are in short supply
Building and strengthening bonds between local community members
You can respond to this survey on behalf of yourself as an individual, on behalf of a business if you are an owner or manager, or on behalf of a non-profit if you are an executive or board member.
