Law Society Employee Recognition Survey
1. Employee Recognition - Background
In the 2009 collective agreement negotiations with the Law Society the PEA made a proposal to make the “Employee Recognition & Rewards Program” more transparent (see article 2.5 of the Law Society’s Policies and Procedures Manual for a description of the program).
Although nothing was agreed to in the collective agreement with respect to the issue, it was sent by the parties to the Union/Management Committee for consideration and was discussed by the parties at the May 20 meeting of the Committee. At that meeting Law Society representatives disclosed that in 2009, 17 members of the PEA were awarded some recognition under the program.
The Law Society has asked the PEA whether publication to the PEA and its members of the names of all PEA members so honoured would be a reasonable step in the direction of increased transparency. (We emphasize that this issue is only in the discussion stage and the Law Society has not made any specific proposal concerning it at this time).
We think that it would be more transparent to couple the general disclosure of the names of PEA members who are honoured under this program with the reasons for the award for example, distinguished service on a particular project, some other notable achievement or excellent performance of regular duties). However, before proceeding further, we would like your views on this issue and ask that you fill out the survey below and return it to the PEA by July 9 2010. Thanks for your help.
