Transportation and business analysts have been generally reporting improvements in the economy in truck shipments for the last several months, while many truckload carriers say demand for service has been good for the past year.

The unusually mild winter is credited with boosting demand for trucks during the first quarter, perhaps stealing a few loads that would noramlly move in the second quarter.
