What is the Vale of Aylesbury Plan?

The Government is changing the way our future housing and employment needs are planned for. Local Communities will have more control over planning in their local area. Across the country, town and parish councils are identifying the priorities of local people, and their results will shape Area Plans.

The Vale of Aylesbury Plan will state:

How much growth Aylesbury Vale should accommodate over the next twenty years.
Where the growth should be and what type of housing will be needed.
What level of new employment will be needed and where it should be created.

Our contribution to the Plan must reflect the level of housing growth and local job creation Winslow will require over the next 20 years. For most of us that means thinking about the next generation rather than ourselves.

Why do we need it?

The Government’s new National Planning Policy Framework includes a presumption in favour of development unless there are specific local policies on development. If we don’t combine our voices to make a robust Neighbourhood Plan, we will leave the door open to changes we don’t want. District and County Councils are obliged to pay due regard to our Plan when considering both major planning applications and more local issues.

What do you think? Winslow’s future 20 years is a long time to look ahead. 20 years ago...

There was no worldwide web - now 83% of the UK use the internet.
The population of England was 47 million - now it has increased by 12%.
The number of affordable homes has fallen by 16%
Looking to 2031...
Fuel costs will impact how we travel and commute - UK communities will have to be more self-sufficient
The UK population is likely to increase by 16%
Life expectancy will continue to rise, increasing the demand for homes.

In 2018, Winslow is likely to be connected by rail to London and the North (see later).

If Winslow grows at the rate of the rest of the UK, there will be 883 more people by 2031.
To house them, we will need 374 new homes (assuming the average number of people per household remains, as now, at 2.36 people per household.
