Improving support for women in the next pregnancy following a stillbirth or neonatal death

The University of Manchester and Central Manchester NHS Foundation Trust, in collaboration with Tommy’s (www.tommys.org), are undertaking a survey to find out about the experiences of pregnancy care for women who have previously experienced the death of a baby before or shortly after birth. We are carrying out a similar survey of maternity units who provide care for pregnant women who have had a stillbirth or neonatal death previously.

We need your views and experiences so that we can identify good practice and areas where services could be developed and improved in the future. Responses will be anonymous and confidential. The data collected will be used to inform further research in this area. This study has received ethical approval from Greater Manchester North Research Ethics Committee, reference number 11/NW/0806.

We acknowledge that the death of a baby raises emotional issues for all individuals concerned. SANDS is a stillbirth and neonatal death charity that offers support to women as well as health care professionals; a helpline is available on 0207 436 5881 or helpline@uk-sands.org for anyone affected by the death of a baby.

The survey should take no longer than fifteen minutes to complete. If you have any questions, please contact Alison Cooke, Research Midwife at Alison.Cooke@cmft.nhs.uk or call 0161-276 5469.

Thank you in advance for your help with this project.
