The President of the Philippines is the head of state and government of the Republic of the Philippines.

Powers and Duties:

1. Heads the Executive branch of the government, which includes the Cabinet and all executive departments;
2. The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police;
3. Director and Controller of the National Budget;
4. Exercises general supervision over local government units;
5. Contract or guarantee foreign loans on behalf of the Republic of the Philippines;
6. Grant reprieves, commutations, and pardons, and remit fines and forfeitures, after conviction by final judgment;
7. Suspend the privilege of the writ of habeas corpus or place the Philippines or any part thereof under martial law.
8. Appoints members of the Supreme Court, members of the Constitutional Commission, ambassadors, other public ministers and consuls, or officers of the armed forces from the rank of colonel or naval captain, and other officers whose appointments are vested in the President in 1987 Constitution.
