Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey. We anticipate that completing the questionnaire in full will take 10 minutes.

I am hoping that you will be willing to participate in a study about energy use at De Montfort University.

The study seeks to understand the impact that the use of social media (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.) for pro-environmental behaviour enhancement can have on everyday behaviours and on the energy consumption of buildings.

The study will consist of the present questionnaire and of a participatory process on social media about what can be done at De Montfort University to transform it into a more sustainable and environmentally friendly university.
A participatory process is a process where everyone is invited to participate and to give his ideas and opinions. Therefore all your views will be valued and you may see your ideas transformed into actions!
In addition, I would like to contact you to ask whether you are happy for me to interview you about your experience about energy use at work and about the participatory process and/or if you are happy to be monitored for a couple of weeks to understand the patterns of energy use in DMU`s offices.

The study is being carried out by Monica Pianosi from the Institute of Energy and Sustainable Development (IESD) at De Montfort University as part of a PhD and is being supervised by Dr Richard Bull from the Institute and Prof Martin Rieser from the Institute of Creative Technologies (IOCT). The research is funded by DMU.

The data from this study will be analysed and used in a PhD thesis, academic papers and conference presentations. Neither your name nor any other personal identifying information will appear in the final thesis or any reports, papers or conference presentations resulting from this study.
All data collected and processed in this study will be handled in compliance with the Data Protection Act 1998. All information will be anonymised and stored in a secure location.

Participation in this study is entirely voluntary. You may also decide to withdraw from this study at any time. Beyond that I will not seek any more information or make any further contact with you after the study finishes unless you ask me to.

I can assure you that this study has been reviewed and approved by my supervisors and the De Montfort University Human Research Ethics committee. If you have any questions regarding this study or would like any additional information please do not hesitate to contact me or my supervisors (see below).

Thank you for your assistance in this study.

Yours Sincerely,
Monica Pianosi
