1. Thank you for participating in my Smith for Senate 2010 Iowa Citizen Survey. Every citizen deserves to have their voice heard and this online survey is a way to do so. Once citizens have had a chance to fill out the survey, we will tabulate and present the results. Leave us your email address if you would like the results sent to you.

3. Thinking about state government and the way it works with businesses to create jobs, do you believe the state does a very good job, an average job or a poor job working with business to create jobs?

4. Would you say the amount you pay in taxes to state government is too high, too low or about right?

5. Thinking about your local schools and the quality of education they deliver, would you say they job they do is excellent, good, average or poor?

6. And do you have children or grandchildren attending your local schools?

7. In order to encourage more young people to raise their families in Iowa, in your opinion, what is the improvement that would be most likely to achieve this goal?

8. As you know, Iowa has a state budget that is facing major deficits. From what you know, is this because politicians have spent too much money, have not collected enough in taxes or simply a matter of the bad economy?

9. Thinking about how you will vote this year generally, would you say you are planning to support more incumbents, more newcomers or a mix of both?

10. And when voting, do you generally vote for mostly Republicans, mostly Democrats or a balanced mix of the two?

11. As you know, the Iowa Supreme Court legalized same sex marriage. For those who support the traditional definition of marriage, the answer is to amend the Constitution to define it as between a man and a woman exclusively. What do you think? Should the Constitution be amended to establish the traditional definition of marriage or should we leave it the way it is?

12. The average pay of Iowa teachers is significantly below the national average. Groups representing teachers say the state needs to spend more to bring it up to the national average. Others say the state cannot afford to do this and teacher pay will need to remain where it is. What do you think?

13. Some legislators are trying to significantly limit the ability of school boards to fire teachers. They say school boards have too much authority in this area. Others say school boards use their power sparingly and need the ability to fire teachers. What do you think?

14. Thinking about the ways to express your views to the elected officials, would you like the opportunity to regularly weigh in on issues with online surveys like this?
