1. Getting Involved at the Chamber

 
Thank you for your interest in becoming more involved with a policy committee at the Austin Chamber. The success of our policy initiatives is the direct result of engaged membership. We are excited to work with you in 2010 to make Central Texas a more prosperous region!
The committee opportunities are as follows:

FEDERAL ISSUES COMMITTEE
Chair: Rick Hawkins, Entrepreneur, Life Sciences Innovation & Technology
Analyze, potentially conduct research for, and participate in the discussion and consideration of recommendations to the Board on policy positions that represent the priorities of the business community. Recommendations adopted by the Board become the Chamber’s Federal Legislative Agenda which is the platform for Chamber staff and volunteer advocacy with Congressional electeds and government officials in Central Texas and on the DC Federal Advocacy Initiative. The committee meets generally once a month.

STATE ISSUES COMMITTEE
Chair: Mike Nasi, Partner, Jackson Walker LLP, Environmental & Legislative Practice Group
Analyze, potentially conduct research for, and participate in the discussion and consideration of recommendations to the Board on policy positions that represent the priorities of the business community. Recommendations adopted by the Board become the Chamber’s State Legislative Agenda which is the platform for Chamber staff and volunteer advocacy with State electeds and government officials. The committee meets generally once a month.

LOCAL ISSUES COMMITTEE
Chair: August Harris, President, Covenant Financial Solutions LLC
Analyze policy issues at the local level of government and develop recommendations to the Board on positions that represent the priorities of Central Texas businesses. Policy areas include: City of Austin Comprehensive Plan, City of Austin or Travis County bond propositions and charter amendment elections, and regulatory climate.

TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE
Chair: Terry Mitchell, President, Momark Development, Inc.
Develops recommended positions for the Chamber Board on transportation issues. Proactively works to influence transportation policy that supports Opportunity Austin 2.0 objectives and economic vitality. The committee meets generally on the first Thursday of the month. Policy Groups to support the Committee’s research and initiatives are:

- CAMPO/Regional Policy Group
- City of Austin/Local Policy Group
- State/Federal Transportation Issues Policy Group
- Transit Policy Group
