Mental Health 101: Learn the basics of mental illness and how our college students struggle with this challenge: understand their symptoms, triggers, actions and how you can help.
Before the Gun: Learn how you can play an active role in preventing a crisis on campus: understand how to spot warning signs, potential threats, how to report them and what Cuesta is doing.
Setting Boundaries : Working with this student population can be confusing and overwhelming: learn how to set boundaries and keep them as well as decreasing the codependency and burnout that comes with being in the student services sector.
Working with Emotionally Distressed Students: ROLE-PLAY: A hands-on training that helps you practice working with students in emotional distress. You will role-play real life campus scenarios and learn how to deescalate, work with and refer these students.
Mental Health First Aid: An in-depth look at mental illness provided by Transitions Mental Health Association (TMHA). Mental Health First Aid is offered in the form of an interactive 12-hour course that presents an overview of mental illness and substance use disorders in the U.S. It introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems, builds understanding of their impact, and overviews common treatments. Those who take the 12-hour course to certify as Mental Health First Aiders learn a 5-step action plan encompassing the skills, resources and knowledge to help an individual in crisis connect with appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help care.
