Dear Fellow Texans,
This summer Texas Folklife, the Texas Commission on the Arts and the Texas Department of Agriculture are beginning an ambitious survey of folk traditions in the Lone Star State. We have chosen food traditions, also known as foodways, as our starting point. Our belief is that by learning about the diverse stories of Texas traditions of cooking, mealtimes, gardening and agriculture, and festivals and holiday foods, we will find out much more about the enduring and evolving traditions of our state.
We invite you to take “a place at the table” and tell us about your family’s favorite dishes, or the work you do to produce food for your family or for the market. We will be traveling around the state over the next few years visiting festivals, conducting interviews and meeting Texans from all cultural backgrounds with a story to tell. Your food story could become part of new exhibits, radio and television documentaries and placed as a legacy for future generations in Texas libraries.
Please join us by answering a few questions about the foodways of your family, community, and region.
Remember to click "DONE" at the bottom of the survey to submit your answers.
THANK-YOU for your taking the time to share your food traditions and memories. If you have a little more time and want to tell us more please continue with the survey.
To stop now, press "DONE" at the bottom of the survey to submit.
