Geospatial Management Competency Model
Introduction
The purpose of this questionnaire is to solicit feedback from experienced geospatial professionals* about the draft Geospatial Management Competency Model (GMCM) that a URISA Task Force has created for the U.S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration (DOLETA). The draft GMCM is available at [http://www.urisa.org/gmcm_review]. Read the draft GMCM in its entirety before responding to the questions below. Refer to the document while responding.
The draft GMCM specifies 74 essential competencies and 17 competency areas that characterize the work of most successful managers in the geospatial industry. It is not intended to be an exhaustive inventory of all pertinent competencies, such as those specific to particular work settings. Instead, the GMCM seeks to distill a concise list that is widely applicable, and readily adaptable to evolving industry needs.
To help assure the authenticity of responses, the questionnaire asks you to disclose certain personally identifying information, including your name, job title, employment location (U.S. state, Canadian province, or country), and email address. Only two individuals will ever have access to personally identifying information: the survey administrator (URISA Executive Director Wendy Nelson) and the GMCM Task Force facilitator (David DiBiase). Only aggregate results will be reported to the Task Force, to questionnaire respondents, and ultimately to the public.
* “Geospatial professionals” includes GIS professionals, professional surveyors, photogrammetrists and remote sensing scientists, programmers and application developers who specialize in geospatial applications, educators with specialized expertise in Geographic Information Science and Technology, and others whose work relies on geospatial technologies and data analysis.
