1. Call for Proposals for the 2013 National Network of Statewide Afterschool Networks Meeting

The theme of the 2013 National Network Meeting being held in Washington, DC is:

Students at the Center of Learning: Closing the Opportunity Gap with Afterschool and Summer

Sessions might focus on a challenge that was overcome or how a success came to be. Presenters/discussants should detail how system level policies and practices were initiated and supported by the networks. Note that sessions should be designed to support and encourage discussion among you and your colleagues, and should NOT be designed as traditional sessions where a panel of presenters is speaking at the audience the entire time.

Please note there will be NO audio visual or PowerPoint in the room, this session is meant to be more interactive.

2013 convening themes will focus on:

- The intersection of research, policy and practice in supporting systems for afterschool
- Student-centered learning and the leading edge issues where the afterschool community can provide leadership like credit-bearing opportunities outside of school, digital learning, school-community partnerships
- Today’s policy context and the opportunities and barriers for expanded learning opportunities
- The gap in opportunities for young people mitigated by quality afterschool and summer learning programs

All sessions at the meeting are built around the three goals of the Mott-funded networks:

Goal 1: Create a sustainable structure of statewide, regional and local partnerships, particularly school-community partnerships, focused on supporting policy development at all levels.

Goal 2: Support the development and growth of statewide policies that will secure the resources that are needed to sustain new and existing afterschool programs.

Goal 3: Support statewide systems to ensure programs are of high quality.
