WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS

Walking In The Newcomer’s Shoes

Welcoming Young Adult Friends
Young Adult Friends are few and far between in most monthly meetings. How do we receive and support this population throughout the meeting? Facilitated by Sadie Forsythe & Young Adult Friends.

Nurturing Vocal Ministry in Your Meeting
How can monthly meetings deepen our worship while helping newcomers perceive, listen to and express the Light within? Facilitated by Colin Bussiere-Nichols.

Not just for First Day School Teachers!
Visiting families are often seeking religious education for their children. How does First Day School offer spiritual hospitality to new families and engage their participation? Facilitated by Greta Rech.

Finding Seekers: Local Outreach Strategies
So many people are seeking what we’ve got. How do we help them find Quakers? Facilitated by Wendy Kane.

Sharing our Faith
Newcomers come with questions. What does it mean to be a Friend? What’s a Quaker lifestyle like? What do you think about Jesus? How to talk about Quakerism without fear of prosthelytizing. Facilitated by Amy Kietzman.

Turn On the Lights!
Simple ideas to attract seekers, welcome them when they arrive, and inspire them to return to your meeting. From signs, to guest books, to greeters, to believing you have something valuable to share, this workshop offers ways for your meeting to throw its doors wide open. Facilitated by Signe Wilkinson.

The Family-Friendly Meeting
Explore how all members can integrate children and their parents into every aspect of meeting, from worship to committees to fellowship, thereby strenghthening the meeting for generations. Facilitated by Christie Duncan-Tessmer.

Taming Adult Religious Education
Content for religious education is easy to come by; everyone has something to offer. But coordination is a whole different animal. Discuss what works to organize and maintain ARE events, and how to build and sustain attendance. Facilitated by Brad Sheeks.

Everyone Can Play: Making Friends
Spiritual Hospitality for kids! How do we make friends? How do we welcome people to our meetings and into our lives? Kids in 1st through 5th grade will explore these questions from God’s point of view. Childcare is provided for Little Friends. Facilitated by Benjamin Camp.
