Study: Effectiveness of Collaborative Learning Groups

Author: Katie Webb (Central Michigan University: Teacher Education Program)

For this study, a collaborative learning group is defined as a pairing of students (two or more) with minimal teacher support. The role of the teacher is to provide answers to questions and keep students on track. The students are teaching themselves and one another as they hold group discussions (think-pair-share), solve a problem, create a presentation in any format, research, or investigate a topic.

For this study, collaborative learning groups do NOT include: partner readings, peer editing, or playing games for an activity.
Assume any other pairing type you may use is a collaborative learning group.
