PROGRAM INFORMATION

Thank you for your interest in the USGBC-Illinois Green Affordable Housing Training Series! This comprehensive pilot is designed to support staff of Chicago affordable housing development organizations. The three-phase training series —offered at no cost for participating organizations– prepares and supports organizational staff to study for and pass the LEED Green Associate exam and the LEED for Homes exam, resulting in increased capacity among Chicago developers to successfully implement affordable green and LEED for Homes projects.

Last spring 25 participants completed Phase 1 of this training series, and they are currently working through Phase 2. USGBC-Illinois is now recruiting a second cohort of individuals to participate in the same training, beginning in January.


TRAINEE BENEFITS

1) Receive content training related to green residential development at no cost to you
2) Receive training and support to earn the LEED GA credential, with the option to pursue more advanced credentialing
3) Learn to reduce carbon impact and reduce energy usage while gaining real-world skills
4) Build capacity of development staff in the areas of energy efficiency, integrated design, and green building
5) Receive support in an enhanced learning environment through a cohort approach


COURSES & DATES

- January 31, Welcome & Course introduction (2 hours) 10 AM- 12 PM
- February 14, LEED Core Concepts 201 – (8 hours) 9 AM – 5 PM
- February 28, LEED for Homes 252 – (8 hours) 9 AM – 5 PM
- March 14, LEED Green Associate Study Session 1 (4 hours) 9 AM – 1 PM
- March 21, LEED Green Associate Study Session 2 (4 hours) 9 AM – 1 PM


TRAINEE COMMITMENTS

1) Participate in course introduction, and 4 training dates (outlined above)
2) Sit for the LEED Green Associate Exam by May 1, 2013


APPLICATION

USGBC-Illinois welcomes applications from any Chicago housing developer (preference given to affordable housing developers). Please submit this project application by 1/11/13. You will receive notification of program acceptance by 1/18/13.
