Downloading and installing R on Windows and Mac OSX:

1. Go to http://www.r-project.org; click on the CRAN link on the left hand side of the page.
2. Choose any of the Country/City links; the U.S. sites will likely be faster.
3. Select the link that matches your operating system.

Windows
4. Choose the base installation.
5. Click on the link for R-2.14.1.
6. Select the option to Run the R-2.14.1-win32.exe file.
7. Windows users will be given a an option to customize the startup. Make sure to choose "Yes" for the customized startup, followed by the SDI option for separate windows.
8. The remainder of the installation process may be completed by simply following the Windows Setup Wizard Prompts. Once the installation is complete, an icon to open the R software will be added to the desktop. You may open the R console by double clicking on the icon.

MacOS X
4. Click on the link for R-2.14.1.pkg.
5. Select the option to Save File for the R-2.14.1.pkg. Follow the standard installation of the Mac Installer.
6. Once the installation is complete, an R icon will be added to the Applications folder. Double- clicking the R icon opens the console.
