. A humanitarian charity is setting up an office in a particularly poor area of Africa, having employed an architect to draw up plans. It is made clear by the planning office that to obtain planning permission, a large bribe must be paid to officials, this is normal practice in Africa and the charity cannot continue its good work without this office even though it is illegal in the UK to pay bribes, which option from below MOST describes your response?

It’s the individuals CHOICE, if you can live with paying the bribe, then do it, if you can’t then you must face the consequences e.g no office in Africa.
It’s ACCEPTABLE to do it in Africa, there is no other way. We are just not used to this way of doing business in the UK
It is morally and ethically WRONG to bribe officials, charity or not.
It’s the better of two evils, in a perfect world this wouldn’t need to happen, but in order for this charity to do its valuable work, it is NECESARRY.
Why should we give the charities much needed funds to the planning officials? They are not ENTITLED to it and are part of reason why there is need for such a charity in the first place.

Pay the official and then some, It’s well known, even expected that I can buy my way out of prison in Thailand and I don’t want to be here!
It is necesarry for me to pay this, I think it is unethical but otherwise im stuck in a Thai prison for a hundred years :(
Don’t pay anyone, paying bribes is wrong, I will serve my time in prison because I broke the law.
It is not the Thai policemans right to have my money, it is my money I have worked hard for, so I will not pay.
Pay the official, I need to get out of this situation and I can deal with the fact it’s illegaL

. You are a globally known British arms company, and you are under pressure from your investors to close a lucrative deal in Saudi Arabia, the deal will provide hundreds of jobs and have a significant effect on the British economy in hard times. In order to close the deal it is unofficially known you must pay the MILLIONS of pounds (you have set aside just in case) to the Saudi Leader and his officials and effectively help fund a regime that leaves millions of people living in fear and poverty. What is your MOST likely choice?

If we dont pay, we will lose the British economy billions of pounds and millions of jobs, we have no choice.
If I can live with the consequences, the British people do not have to know how we obtained the deal.
We do have a choice, and the Saudi officials have no right to our money, if we pay we are simply encouraging corruption.
It is wrong whatever country you are in, companies HAVE to be socially responsible and accountable for their actions these days.
It has always been expected in countries such as saudi, so we have to pay.
