Thank you for taking this survey.
This survey is a way for farmers in the Hardwick region to give input on how they think about place based foods and the Taste of Place. If you’re willing to drive to Hardwick on a regular basis, you are in the Hardwick region.
Please Note: There is a specific interpretation of “Taste of Place” used by the Taste of Place initiative; that interpretation DOES NOT MATTER for this survey.
But if you're curious, here is some additional information:
The Taste of Place initiative is intended to identify foods that are not only high quality but also unique to a particular region. In other countries this concept of a “unique” product is proven through three basic factors: link between the natural environment and taste, connections to cultural traditions of the community, and production by the collaborative work of multiple farmers / processors to ensure that the product can continue across multiple generations.
There are two sides of Taste of Place – one is producers identifying unique products (including what makes them unique) and the other is finding a way to convey that uniqueness to customers and protect against imitations.
The oldest, most developed system for identifying and labeling these products is in France www.inao.gouv.fr
