NCA Cultural Workforce Survey 2010
1. Welcome
The UK has a thriving, world-class cultural sector which is nurtured and supported by its human capital, the cultural workforce. Without this workforce, the sector would not be where it is today.
In order to maintain its status as a world leader, the cultural sector needs to be able to adapt, improve and develop, especially during periods of financial strain. To do this effectively, the sector needs to understand exactly who makes up its workforce, its strengths and weaknesses, and the challenges facing this workforce in what has been the worst recession in recent history.
The NCA would like to gather data from everyone who works in the cultural sector, including CEOs, Chairs, Board Members/Trustees, Employers, Employees, Freelancers, Interns and Volunteers. With this data, we hope to create a snapshot of what the cultural workforce looks like today and find out how people really feel about the work that they do.
This survey is the first in what we anticipate will be an annual series. Our intention is to build an important body of evidence about employment in the cultural sector which will help those working in and for the sector to identify where changes could be made.
All comments will be treated confidentially, so please be honest with your responses.
