To gain a full understanding of how my digital SLR works I must put the camera on Auto Aperture Priority Shutter Priority Manual Question Title * 2. The first thing that I must do when I approach taking a photograph is Select an ISO Select an aperture to work with Assess the light Select a shutter speed to work with Take a meter reading Question Title * 3. ISO is the way that we measure how fast the sensor will respond to light. A fast ISO rating would be 50 400 800 Question Title * 4. Please explain for me what the term 'depth of field' means and how I control it on the camera Question Title * 5. A large aperture ie F16 would give us an image with More light and shallow depth of field Less light and large depth of field More light and large depth of field Less light and shallow depth of field Question Title * 6. A super fast shutter speed would be: 1/15 of a second and beautifully freeze the motion of horses running through a paddock 1/1000 of a second and be perfect for showing the blur and flutter of a flock of birds 1/1000 of a second and be perfect for freezing the neighbour's dog at full sprint running through your tulip bed 1/15 of a second and be perfect for handheld photography in a portrait situation Question Title * 7. It's late afternoon (5pm) on a winter's day. The light's almost gone but I want to squeeze out a couple of pictures of my super cute niece playing in the sandpit. I generally use ISO 400 for portraits in the afternoon light, and I set the camera to this now. I'll work at hand held, and I don't have a flash. I aim my camera at my super cute niece and half press the shutter to take a meter reading of the light. The camera tells me that based on the light I have using ISO 400 that the exposure is going to be 2 stops under. This means that the highlights will be flat, her skin will look muddy and I'll have an underexposed image. I need to find a way to bring two stops into the image, so that I can use my minimum setting of 1/125 of a second (the camera is handheld) at F2.8 (the widest opening I can use). What are my options for getting a well exposed photograph with good density in the midtones of my picture of my super cute niece in the sandpit at this time of day? She flies home to her posting in the royal Danish family at dawn tomorrow so this is my last chance. Question Title * 8.
