2013-2014 New Student Orientation Staff Application
Thank you for your interest in our Orientation Staff positions. Yes, we know there is a lot of information ahead, but PLEASE read all sections/pages carefully and complete and submit the following application.
Becoming a member of the New Student Orientation Staff is extremely competitive. We seek to put together a diverse staff, full of various experiences, backgrounds, strengths, and challenges. We encourage all interested students to apply for these prestigious leadership positions on our campus.
The New Student Orientation staff will consist of individuals with a positive and fun attitude and a sincere desire to help welcome and motivate new students at Texas A&M University-Commerce and their families during their New Student Orientation session. They will comprise a dynamic group of current students who will seek to create an atmosphere that minimizes anxiety, promotes positive attitude and stimulates excitement for learning in order to help ease the transition to our campus. New Student Orientation Staff will be responsible for introducing new students, parents and guests to the Texas A&M University-Commerce campus through well-organized, friendly and informative New Student Orientation sessions. They will be trained to provide excellent customer service as they provide general, yet accurate information regarding admission, financial aid, student life, student assessment and the student support services available on our campus. Finally, as a student representative, a New Student Orientation Staff will serve as a role model providing a positive image and good character to prospective students and the community.
The training and preparation of the students in the program will be a bi-weekly one-hour workshop. The workshop will be carried out in a seminar format with high involvement from students in the class activities, discussions and structured exercises. The workshop is tentatively set to meet on Wednesdays from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM during the spring 2014 semester.
In addition there will be a staff overnight leadership retreat held on campus at the end of the spring semester.
Staff will also attend and participate in the National Orientation Directors Association Regional Conference on February 21 - 23, 2014 in Houston, Texas.
Attendance to these various training functions is mandatory and required to serve as a New Student Orientation Staff. So please make sure as best you can that you can make such a commitment.
