Host with the Most - $300 Up for Grabs!

Street Party Season – where good neighbours become good friends!

You know your neighbours; you nod ‘hello’ as you mow the lawn or bring in the bins... but do you really know them?

Why not host a Street Party in your street? Invite neighbours old and new and really get the local conversations started. Street Parties are a great way to get acquainted with your neighbours, build friendly relationships and generate some good, old-fashioned community spirit. They can be held in a street, a local park or even a shared space in an apartment block.

Council encourages and supports Neighbourhood Street Parties by providing a Street Party Kit – full of useful ideas for safe and successful partying. It also provides temporary road closure signs and free Public Liability insurance for Neighbourhood Street Parties.

This year, as a further incentive, Council is offering $300 to the Street Party “Host with the Most” to launch the 2012-13 Street Party Season. Get together with your neighbours and, in 100 words or less, describe why your Street Party should host the launch.

Perhaps you have been holding local ‘get-togethers’ for years – or maybe there are new families in your street that you’d like to make welcome? Perhaps all the kids already know each other, and it’s about time the parents met?

Whatever the reason – be in the running to be this party season’s “Host with the Most” and win $300 towards your Street Party. Simply download and complete an Expression of Interest form from Council’s website at www.banyule.vic.gov.au/Leisure to be in the draw. Remember, talk to your neighbours first – as you need to have their support to run a party.

Any Street Parties require Council permission, particularly if you intend to close the road. Contact Council to collect your Street Party Kit on 9490 4222 and download a Street Party Application from www.banyule.vic.gov.au/Leisure

Expressions of Interest, including your 100 words or less describing why you should win the $300 “Host with the Most” prize draw, must be submitted to Council by the 25th of November. The winner must hold their Neighbourhood Street Party in December/January 2012 - 13 – and be willing to have fun!
