Nottingham NUT - School Holiday Pattern Survey
Introduction
You will probably be aware that Nottingham City Council is intending to change the school holiday pattern as from 2013.
The basis of the change is to move to 5 eight-week terms each year with no half-terms. The summer break will be reduced to about 4 weeks and other breaks between terms will be about 2 weeks. Bank holidays in term time will be taken as and when they fall.
The NUT, along with other unions, has opposed these changes but the Council has decided to impose the new pattern in spite of our strong objections. We are continuing to press for a rethink and will consider balloting for industrial action as a last resort if it becomes necessary.
The vast majority of our members who have contacted us are strongly opposed to the changes but we would like to collect some more systematic evidence to support our talks with the City Council.
Taking time to complete this survey will help win the argument. Please complete it if you work in an establishment following the Nottingham City school holidays.
This survey is intended mainly for members who work in City schools, but NUT members who work in a school outside the City and may be affected by the change (e.g. if you have children attending a City school), or members who are retired (and may have caring responsibilities for grandchildren) are also welcome to complete the survey.
