Support ASERL's Plan for Managing FDLP Collections
Petition to Support ASERL's Plan for FDLP Collections
Members of the Joint Committee on Printing
William Boarman, nominee for US Public Printer
Mary Alice Baisch, Superintendent of Documents
We, the undersigned, urge the leadership of the US Government Printing Office to reconsider the requirements made in recent letters (August 25, 2011 and September 23, 2011) to the leadership of the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries (ASERL) regarding its "Guidelines for Managing FDLP Collections in the Southeast Region." (These letters can be found at http://bit.ly/oKc636.)
As Library Directors, Documents Librarians, and members of the American public, we strongly support the ASERL plan. The ASERL plan complies with the letter and spirit of Title 44 U.S.C. Chapter 19, the statute governing the Federal Depository Library Program. Moreover, the ASERL plan is a very cost-effective initiative that supports improved collection management processes, provides greater public access to federal documents, and streamlines work processes used by depository libraries -- a win-win-win situation.
NOTE: This petition will be available through November 15, 2011.
