The Department of Health has been working with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA)and provider associations to explore assistance and funding for a Nursing Home Energy Efficiency Pilot Program designed to identify and fund projects (ranging from new lighting fixtures, new boilers, chillers, efficient pumping systems, premium efficient service hot water systems, upgraded or new building management systems, conversion from heavy oil-to-gas, and renewable energy systems including photovoltaic’s and solar. The program also includes combined heat and power projects that will reduce energy costs and upgrade your facility’s infrastructure. The pilot program, designed specifically for nursing homes, will offer energy studies, project development plans and cost-benefit analyses to select facilities; it will also explore funding and financing options such as establishing a borrowing pool, public-private funding, grant opportunities or other possible funding sources. It’s a potential win-win opportunity for nursing homes and New York State.
