Help to finalize the core competencies that will be used to set standards to ensure public mental health staff has the knowledge and skills to meet the needs of the children, youth and families they serve.

The “Implementation of Core Competencies of Personnel Working in Children’s Mental Health in New Hampshire” Project work began in October 2011 and the goal is to have it completed by September 2013. The overall Project Goal is to improve the outcomes for children, youth and their families who use the services of New Hampshire’s community mental health centers , by establishing and implementing a training and staff development infrastructure in partnership with the ten community mental health centers, based upon a set of core competencies designed to improve the quality, consistency, and efficiency of the service delivery system.

As a result of this work, a draft of the core competencies has been developed and is now being reviewed for the final document. We would like to ask you to review these core competencies from a youth and family perspective and provide feedback. It is essential that youth and family have a voice in development of these core competencies.

There are four questions we would like you to keep in mind as you read through this document. Click Here, and a separate document will open allowing you to review each competency. Keep both tabs/windows open so that you can return to this page after reviewing the the competencies in order to answer the questions for each competency area. If you would rather have the competencies in hardcopy, you can request that from Claudia Ferber, NAMI NH, and 15 Green Street, Concord, N.H. Email: cferber@naminh.org or call 603.225.5359 ext. 13. Please respond to this survey by January 30, 2012

Below are the questions that you will be asked to provide either a YES or NO answer to, and to explain your answer for each competency area.

1. Do you see the competency focusing on the knowledge and skills required to provide quality supports and services to youth and families?

2. Do you see the competency reflecting the critical role of youth and family as equal partners on the individual and system levels of care i.e. individual treatment plans and delivery, agency and state level policies and practices?

3. Do you see the focus of the competency as stressing the importance of working with youth and family’s strengths, needs and preferences?

4. Additional thoughts or comments?
