Monmouthshire Visitor Signing Project - Monmouth

Introduction

Cotyledon CIC has been commissioned by Monmouthshire County Council’s Tourism team to help deliver improvements to visitor related signage in the county. This visitor signage project is one of five elements of activity which comprise the ‘Welcome Monmouthshire’ project funded through the Rural Development Plan for Wales.

The aim of this work is to improve the sense of arrival and management of visitors in Monmouthshire through improved settlement-wide visitor signage. Quality of the visitor experience is key in creating satisfied customers who become advocates of the destination and recommend the destination to others.

During October and November, the Cotyledon team carried out an audit of visitor signage in Abergavenny, Monmouth, Chepstow and Caldicot. The audit comprised a conditions survey of signs, a tagged picture mapping them for inclusion in the Monmouthshire GIS system and a brief synopsis of the overall feel and presentation of the Town, all provided in a summary report.

What is required now, is to share our initial findings with people in each area who are more familiar with local issues and plans. We have been asked to develop proposals and specifications for works that may be needed from the audit we have conducted and to align this work with the other four strands of the Welcome Monmouthshire project. We understand much work is being carried out locally and we wish to complement this with our audit and not duplicate work that is already being undertaken.

We are keen to include stakeholders to help inform the work of the Tourism team and would be grateful for your views on the following questions.

Please note all comments will be treated confidentially and we are also available to answer any queries you may have on the background to this project or any other related issues you would like to raise. Contact Jan Walsh of Cotyledon CIC on 07737 630657 or Mark Lloyd from Monmouthshire County Council’s Tourism Team on 01633 644865.
