This is a brief survey about Transit Oriented Development, or “TOD.” It should take about 10-15 minutes to complete. Your responses will help the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission with research that is being conducted under a major grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Sustainable Communities Program to better integrate housing, transportation, land use and environmental planning in the Pioneer Valley and Hartford, Connecticut regions.

TOD is a land development strategy that seeks to concentrate more homes, jobs and shopping within a 5-10 minute walking distance (usually ¼ to ½ mile) of a transit station or bus stop. PVPC is seeking to better understand where TOD sites would be most appropriate in our region and we need your assistance in identifying these locations.

TOD districts can vary, depending on local needs and real estate market. TODs generally include a variety of housing, commercial, professional, and retail uses, civic and public spaces, and pedestrian friendly amenities. Here are a few examples of TOD districts in the Northeast:
