1. INTRODUCTION

 
Have you ever found yourself wondering how you can support your child with:
a) Increasing their independence with self-care.
b) Learning and using manners.
c) Understanding what is public vs. private behaviors and topics of conversation.
d) Developing their self-esteem and understanding of their personal preferences, values and decision making.
e) Developing their public social skills i.e. eye contact, assertiveness, turn-taking, compromise, caring, negotiation, etc.
f) Developing schoolyard social skills i.e. slang words and language, what to wear, manners, determining what parts of TV shows are meant to be funny and/or are unrealistic, etc.
g) Learning about their physical anatomy and changes associated with puberty.
h) Reducing risk of sexual exploitation and being in an unhealthy friendship/relationship.
i) Determining when they are ready to have a sexual relationship.

These are all situations that parents face as their children grow and mature.
