SOS Save Our Sports -Parents/Adults

Thank you for participating in our survey. The proposed Carroll County Public School Budget contains recommendations for eliminating freshman sports (mens and womens basketball and football) and indoor track (JV and Varsity). The recommendation claims that eliminating freshman sports will save $92,000 and eliminating indoor track will save $31,000.

While the majority of athletic program expense (uniforms, most equipment, repairs, field maintenance, etc.) is paid by schools from gate receipts, team fundraising, booster club fundraising and similar activities, the county budget includes transportation costs (buses), coaching salaries, payments to officials, space rental (where appropriate) and occasional equipment refurbishment/purchases.

We believe that there are other long-term, viable financial solutions to the problem. We are seeking your input to see what the community is willing to do to allow these sports programs to continue. The survey results will be shared with the booster clubs at each high school for distribution to their parents and will be presented to the Board of Education prior to the hearing date of Jan 27, 2010.
