. You are invited to participate in a study being conducted by Dr. Craig Fowler of Fresno State University and Dr. Christine Rittenour of West Virginia University. The research ethics boards at each of these universities have approved this study.
We want to learn more about communication in the parent-in-law – child-in-law relationship. You were selected for this study because you are a person who is currently married or in a long term committed relationship, and whose romantic partner has at least one living parent.
This study involves a 10-15 minute questionnaire that will ask you to answer questions about your in-laws, as well as about your current romantic relationship.
There are no risks to this study beyond those encountered in daily life, and it is unlikely that participating in this study will make you uncomfortable. However, if you think it would upset you to think about your family relationships, you do not have to participate in the study. We hope to learn important and interesting things through our research, but not at the expense of causing you discomfort.
Any information you provide in this study will remain confidential and will be disclosed only with your permission or as required by law.
Participation in this study is voluntary, and no financial payment is involved. But, if you were recruited into this study by a friend or relative, that person might have been offered extra class credit for asking you to take part.
Whether or not you participate will not influence your future relations with Fresno State. If you decide to participate, you are free to withdraw your consent and to discontinue participation at any time without penalty.
If you have any questions about this research, Dr. Fowler can be reached at 559-278-2878, or by email at crfowler@csufresno.edu
If you are willing to take part in our study, please select "yes" and continue. IF YOU ARE UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE, PLEASE DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN THIS RESEARCH PROJECT!
