Casey Overpass cycling survey

The Casey Overpass working advisory group (WAG) is tasked with advising MassDOT on the preferred alternative to replace the current overpass and at-grade street network. Note that the replacement may or may not include a new overpass. This planning effort represents an opportunity to significantly improve the accessibility and safety for cyclists that use this area for commuting and recreational purposes. Bob Dizon is a member of the WAG representing the BCU, JP Bikes, and other nearby cycling groups. The answers to the following survey will help him to inform the working group of the preferences of cyclists.
1. Do you ride in the east/west direction through the Forest Hills area? If so, do you ride on the street network or on the overpass? Where are you going to and coming from?
2. If you don't often ride in the east/west direction currently, would you more often if there were better cycling accommodations available to do so?
3. If a new overpass was built, would you prefer that it included bike lanes or a separate off-street path?
4. Where should the street-level bike access to the bridge be? Note that a new overpass could likely be not as long or high as the current one.
5. If the street-level bike accommodations were sufficiently comfortable and convenient for riding in the east/west direction, would you still want a lane or path on the overpass?
6. Bike accommodations in the North/South direction on both the Washington/South side as well as the Hyde Park Ave side are also a top priority, including their connection to the Southwest Corridor Path. In this direction, would you prefer on-street or off-street accommodations?
7. If you don't often ride in the North/South direction currently, would you more often if there were better cycling accommodations available to do so? Where would you be coming from and going to?
8. Any other comments you have about what would you like to see in a new design for the Forest Hills area?
