Eastern Pkwy/ Wash. Ave. Intersection
1.
While the recent attention in the press to the dangerous crosswalk at Washington Ave./Eastern Parkway where 4 lanes of traffic meet 5 lines is fantastic, after some follow-up it is clear that a solution is not forthcoming until 2012 at the earliest. It is key that we show electeds & various agencies that there is a critical mass that will not tolerate more delays. We need to hold the city to getting a Walk/Don’t Walk signal and Turning Lights in place according to the new E.P. median strip project timeline—if not sooner. AND, we must demand interim solutions be put in place by the Police Department, such as police enforcement and school crossing guards.
This intersection lies at the crossroads of the 77th & 71st police precincts, but also is the line between the Brooklyn North & Brooklyn South commands, which is apparently an even bigger deal. Even worse it is the divide between Community Boards & School Districts. In other words, No Man's Land!
Please pass this on to your family and friends!
Many thanks,
Bay
