Background
Over the years, Grafton County Senior Citizens Council has grown and changed. In 1970 it was known as the Lebanon Senior Center; in 1974 it was called the Upper Valley Senior Citizens Council; and in the early ‘80s it grew dramatically to include several senior centers and programs across Grafton County. At that point, the name was changed to Grafton County Senior Citizens Council, Inc., or GCSCC. Currently, GCSCC operates 8 senior centers in Grafton County, oversees an In-Home Care Program, and sponsors RSVP and ServiceLink of Grafton County. The purpose of GCSCC is to develop, strengthen, and provide programs and services that support the health, dignity, and independence of older adults and adults with disabilities.
Challenge
Many people feel our name, Grafton County Senior Citizens Council or GCSCC, is:
• Confusing (implies a public agency rather than a private non-profit)
• Unwieldy (too many words, too hard to say)
• Ineffective (people know their local senior center but not GCSCC)
• Possibly outdated (use of the words senior citizens, council)
We are looking at ways of better communicating who we are and what we do.
